The article discusses the role of the philosophical concept of relations in the historiography of world history since the 19th century. Arguing that the distinction between the global and the local and between macro- and micro-perspectives in histories of globalization is but one example of the prevalence of this concept, the author suggests that concept of locality, or place, could be useful in bridging dichotomies in historical theory. She bases her argument on insights from several theorists, including sociologist Bruno Latour, anthropologist Arjun Appadurai, and historian Walter Mignolo.
