Luhmann's claim of a "conceptual revolution within sociology" is discussed using the example of "double contingency" and is compared with Max Weber's position. The comparison not only points out several oddities in Luhmann's position, but also makes clear, that a "conceptual revolution" is not necessary. Nevertheless, Luhmann's concept is worthy of future theorizing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
