General Call for Papers
Queer Studies in Media & Popular Culture is a refereed academic journal devoted to the study of representations and expressions of queerness in its various forms. It aims to publish cutting-edge, peer-reviewed scholarship on noteworthy topics at the intersection of media/popular culture and queerness in gender/sexuality. Its contents are international in scope and represent a wide variety of disciplines, with a particular emphasis on perspectives and approaches from the humanities, social sciences, and the arts.
Each issue includes articles pertaining to queerness in media offerings of various kinds and/or in other forms of popular culture.
Many of the journal's media-based research articles pertain to noteworthy media representations of gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, and/or trans individuals in films, television programs, and/or emerging media forms. However, any topic of relevance to the field of queer theory, as well as any relevant representation that appears in any media form (e.g., comic books, magazines, musical recordings, newspapers, novels, video games, etc.), is appropriate for submission and strongly encouraged.
The journal's popular culture research articles explore a similarly wide variety of subject matter and approaches. Relevant topics may include, but are certainly not limited to, significant trends in consumerism, domestic life, fashion, homonationalism, leisure, marriage equality debates, metronormativity, politics, spirituality, and other noteworthy elements of culture and their connections to minority sexualities and/or nontraditional gender performance.

Call for Reviews
Queer Studies in Media & Popular Culture seeks reviews of recent books, films, television series, musical recordings, theatrical performances, art exhibitions and other media that make a queer contribution to media and popular culture and/or to academic scholarship on media and popular culture.

Guidelines for Reviews:
QSMPC reviews may take a number of different forms, depending on the topic, format, and significance of the work under review. Contributors should nonetheless follow these general guidelines for the preparation and submission of review manuscripts.
Content:
Reviews should begin with a description of the work under review that gives readers a sense of the work as a whole, in addition to particular aspects of it.
Contextualize the work you review. What makes the work of interest to readers of Queer Studies in Media & Popular Culture?
Evaluate some of the work's key themes or components. Give reasons for your evaluation. We especially encourage reviewers to consider the following questions:
- Does the work you are reviewing make a significant or original contribution to queer theory or to representations of queer life?
- Does the work embody an awareness of the diversity of queer lives, and of queer theoretical perspectives relevant to the issues they discuss or portray?
Format:
Length: The appropriate length of a review will depend on the complexity and size of work under review, but will typically run from 1000 to 2500 words.
Header: Begin your review with a bibliographic entry that includes accurate information about the author or creator, title, publisher or producer, and place and date of publication or performance for the work you are reviewing.
Author's credit: Below the bibliographical entry, give your name and institutional affiliation.

All articles submitted should be original work and must not be under consideration by other publications.
Journal contributors will receive a free PDF copy of their final work upon publication. Print copies of the journal may also be purchased by contributors at half price.
