This Day in History:
April 30, 1930

Col. Charles Lindbergh sets a new transcontinental speed record of 14 hr, 45 min, 32 sec, flying 2530 mi from Glendale, CA to Roosevelt Field, Long Island, NY in his Lockheed Sirius monoplane. Accompanied by his wife, Lindbergh wishes to prove that flying at higher altitudes permits greater speeds. The flight averages between 14-15,000 ft with an average speed of 171 mph.
