MEXICO: Tensions surface over constitutional reform
On 6 June Ignacio Mier Velazco, the leader of Mexico’s ruling left-wing Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena) party in the lower chamber of congress, said deputies will push ahead quickly with controversial constitutional reform proposals in September, an announcement which led to further nervousness on financial markets.

CHILE: Spat with Venezuela deepens
On 6 June Chile’s foreign ministry delivered a diplomatic note to Venezuela complaining about comments made by the country’s attorney general, Tarek William Saab, regarding the kidnapping and murder of a dissident former Venezuelan soldier in Santiago, Ronald Ojeda, who was granted asylum by Chile last year.
